Mental Asterisks

We naturally gravitate toward confirming what we already believe. "I'm not a numbers person" becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy for many entrepreneurs, just as "I can't cook" becomes reality for someone who never tries. But this Confirmation Bias closes doors before we even peek inside. Instead of definitive statements that limit growth ("I don't care about numbers"), try adding mental asterisks to these areas ("I'm not really a numbers person, but I could learn*"). This simple cognitive shift—from period to asterisk—creates openings where walls once stood. By questioning rather than cementing our limitations, we remain receptive to opportunities that would otherwise pass us by, unseen and unexplored.
